And the Anxious Hooker is to blame for it…
On 27th October, once the party for her newly turned 8yo daughter was over, she finally sat with me and taught me crochet.
I have always had this tendency to obsess about things I like and this is no different. I can’t stop. I’m constantly picking up a hook and some wool and making things…
She started me on double crochet first. And then I added a colour, then another. Then another.
When I was done with that she made me do a granny square. The fact that I picked the colour of Melbourne Rising is a total coincidence. Shut up.
Then I made a thing that ended up being a jellyfish… Don’t ask me how I made it, I haven’t a clue!
Then I just played around and ended up with various flowers…
That’s when I decided to try my hand at making some hats, because, really, why not? I followed the directions my wife told me (I cannot read a pattern) and hello, hats!
This is the first one I made, I love it (and wish I could find it… Damn kids!)
Then I started freestyling again… It started like a hat but I did too many stitches for that so I just kept going, and going. It’s probably going to be a bag… maybe… I don’t know yet, it’s not finished.
And the latest thing I’m working on, which I started on Saturday night when we watched the final of the 4 Nations, is definitely a bag!
It’s my dad’s 60th birthday next weekend. I can’t be there, because my parents and siblings all live in France and I live here in New Zealand. My stepmum suggested I made him a beanie or something so I’ll be doing that. It’s a little bit scary but I’m sure I’ll be fine, I have the best teacher after all. 😉
**Edited to add progress on bag**
It is a great feeling to create something especially when it can be used.

Yes, it really is! I’ve made cards before, and jewellery but I’m really enjoying this crochet thing.

When my mom died, I stopped all knitting and crocheting. I recently picked it up again. I try to output something every week.

New obsessions are so damn exhilarating, aren’t they? 😉 Those hats are so cute! The jellyfish is definitely my favorite, though.

Handmade hats definitely deserve a selfie! The bag looks like it’s coming along really well. I have a friend who knits and sews a lot of her own clothing and I’m always impressed by her creations. The possibilities are, literally, endless. It’s such an admirable skill. 🙂

I finished the green ‘stripe’ and did a burnt orange one and now I’m doing a purple one… I’ll take a photo tomorrow in the datlight. Might get Emma to take a pic of me with my beanie too (my phone is useless for selfies!)… 😉
